Union Square Alliance Statement

“We were deeply shocked and saddened to learn about an armed robbery in our community involving 49er’s rookie Ricky Pearsall, and we are relieved to hear he is doing better. We want to thank the Union Square Police deployment for their swift response, which was critically important and led to the immediate apprehension of the suspect. This holiday weekend, our police presence in Union Square has been increased further for the safety of the community. Our City leaders have made it clear that this kind of activity will not be tolerated.”

Quite simply, this data doesn’t match with the facts on the ground and in the Square. While the first half of the year was somewhat slower than last year, the spring and summer have been robust with numerous popular public events that have drawn large and enthusiastic crowds. This AI generated analysis is more “artificial” than “intelligent.” As “SF summer” kicks off now is the best time to come down and visit Union Square.

Union Square Alliance Statement about “R-Evolution” Sculpture

“If fully realized, the opportunity to host Marco Cochrane’s sculpture ‘R-Evolution’ would be an exciting temporary addition to Union Square Park. This sculpture is a celebration of the strength and beauty of the female form. Imagine a yoga class synchronized with her life-like breathing, and viewing this remarkable work of art from vantage points throughout the district like the still very open Macy’s, Starlite at Beacon Grand, Chotto Matte, and the newly renovated luxury suites at the Westin St. Francis. This is a positive conversation starter for an innovative San Francisco—let’s embrace this opportunity to activate the Square. We appreciate the SF Art Commission’s committee recommendation and look forward to the next steps in this celebration of art, tradition, and the power of women.”
