Ciao! San Francesco! Hello San Francisco!

Italian Style Meets LGBT Tourism in New Free Travel App

WIMBIFY Creators Will be @ SF Pride Fair: Saturday & Sunday, June 25 & 26
Launch Party at San Francisco’s Catch: Tuesday, June 21, 5:30pm – 7:30pm
www.wimbify.com

21 June 2016 – San Francisco / Milan: In a world without borders we still need friends. Meet WIMBIFY — the best place online for saavy and friendly members of the LGBT community to meet other like-minded travel companions. To whit: WIMBIFY’s creative team will be in San Francisco for Pride Week, hosting a launch party on Tuesday, June 21, 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Catch (Castro & Market) and in their WIMBIFY branded booth during the weekend Pride Festival at San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza (June 25 & 26).

NOTE:

RSVP is required for the June 21 launch event. Those members of the press or blogosphere interested in attending, please email news@davidperry.com

“Wimbify is designed for the gay globetrotter,” said Alessio Virgili, WIMBIFY CEO and co-founder. “Traveling alone can sometimes be lonely and more expensive. WIMBIFY is a safe community where LGBT people can meet travel companions. You can ask for a lift or meet a local for a more personalized and friendly travel experience.”

“WIMBIFY stands for ‘Welcome to my back yard,’” explains co-founder Andrea Cosimi. “The concept behind the application is based in the increasingly popular philosophy of the sharing economy.”

Designed for both iOS and Android platforms, WIMBIFY is a free app, and has been developed specifically for the international LGBT community.

Specifically, WIMBIFY is designed to:
• Find LGBT hospitality and gay friendly accommodations.
• Check and post reviews of travel hosts and homeowners.
• Find gay guides to help you “live like a local.”
• Search for travel companions or shared transportation cost opportunities.

“Wimbify is a way for people to share unique travel experiences and destinations, ” said Virgili. “It allows people to host others for free by using the WIMBIFY app. This isn’t about renting rooms or paying to use someone’s flat. It’s about meeting people for friendship and sharing resources. It’s about connection and safety. What better way for a member of the LGBT community to feel safe and secure in a foreign country than with a local member of that LGBT community as their guide. ”

Founded by Virgili and Cosimi, Sonders & Beach is already an established leader in European LGBT travel and tourism with well known brands such as Quiiky (the first Italian LGBT tour operator and developer of the “Untold History” tours including the renowned "Vatican in a Gay Light" tour of the Vatican Museum, MiTown (a leisure website for visitors to Milan), and QMagazine (an international biannual publication of LGBT culture and tourism).

“According to recent studies, 53 % of LGBT people travel and live alone,” said Virgili. “WIMBLIFY is a free, easy and convenient way to find travel companions, low price or even free accommodations and to take advantage of discounts specific to the LGBT community.”

“Frankly,” laughs Cosimi. “We designed WIMBIFY for people just like us.”

18 June 2016 – San Mateo, CA: After a week of traditional and innovative pop, rock and soul concerts featuring the likes of Tower of Power, Night Ranger, Lone Star, The Boys of Summer – Eagles Tribute Band, Kansas and The Spinners, The San Mateo County Fair (www.sanmateocountyfair.com) closes out a wildly successful run with a pastiche of classical and movie theme music from The Peninsula Symphony (Saturday, June 18) and the ever-popular traditional Latin Music focused Día De La Feria (Sunday, June 19).

“Everyone loves the movies, and most everyone has a favorite movie theme,” says Dana Stoehr, COO for the San Mato County Fair noting that tonight’s offerings will feature music written for and featured in such Hollywood classics as Star Wars, Die Hard 2, Frozen, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Pink Panther and the Harry Potter series. “The audience will revel in some of the best known, and best loved, film scores. Great for all ages, this concert is sure to be a crowd-pleasing kick-off to the summer.”

Founded in 1949, Peninsula Symphony is a 90-member ensemble of professionally-trained community members and is the premier orchestral ensemble between San Francisco and San Jose. The Symphony also features an active education and outreach program, giving thousands of students each year the chance to experience live music. Under the baton of Maestro Mitchell Sardou Klein, Peninsula Symphony is widely regarded as one of the finest community orchestras in the country.

“There is nothing more American than Latin music,” laughs Kaitlyn Bailey-Findley, in charge of new audience development, anxious to remind fairgoers to tweet out using the hashtag: #SMCF2016 “San Mateo and the Bay Area proudly celebrate the cultural diversity of our citizens and our musicians. You don’t have to speak Spanish to enjoy Spanish-language music. From the Latin GRAMMY nominated Los Guardianes del Amor and Central American Pop of Industria del Amor to the rock of Mi Banda el Mexicano and the increasingly well-known standards of Los Tiranos del Norte Los Tiranos del Norte from Mexicali, we have music: tenemos musica!”

WHY:
Sharing The Joy and Accessibility of Sailing

Summer Sailstice celebrates the joy, adventure and accessibility of sailing for people from all backgrounds. While sailing often is portrayed as an elite sport, in actuality it is a fun, accessible sport shared by people from all walks of life. The vast majority of the millions of sailors worldwide, including more than 3 million in the United States, sail small boats, crew on other people’s boat or are members of community sailing and club programs.

Locally, San Francisco Bay is world-renowned as a sailing mecca and home to many world champion racers and successful world cruisers. There are almost 10,000 sailboats in the water between Stockton and San Jose and thousands more in dinghy racks, backyards and community programs like Shoreline, Cal Sailing, Lake Merritt, Treasure Island, and other on-land storage locations.

Additionally, Summer Sailstice celebrates accessibility to the outdoors and to nature, highlighting the Bay’s large ‘open space’ that is easily accessible to the Bay Area’s 7+ million residents. Summer Sailstice has joined with Sailors for the Sea to inform and mobilize sailors, their families and communities to enjoy and conserve the beauty of the oceans and to raise awareness of human impacts on the fragile marine environment and wildlife.
