Prelude to a great read!
Prelude to a great read!
“First loves are important and ones you never forget….” says 22 year old Heath Barrington at the end of David S. Pederson’s delightful “Death’s Prelude” — the prequel to the prolific author’s series of detective novels featuring the above quoted young gay sleuth. Ah, and to lose one’s virginity to a handsome scandal-clad English lord on an eastbound 1937 crossing of the “Queen Mary” makes for a delicious prelude indeed to Heath’s first love, and first case.
Flighty rich aunts with hearts of gold, gilded celebs of that pre-war gilded age and a full crew and manor-full of witty and just-wicked-enough characters make for a mystery full of mirth and witty repartee. Pederson is clearly a lover of — and student of — history and all things maritime: both traits greatly respected by yours truly. Grab a steamer rug, a leeward deck chair, order a steaming mug of bouillon from a passing steward and get ready for a rollicking read.
